Need headlight restoration near you? Atelier Car Care provides professional headlight polishing and restoration across Stamford, Cambridge, Peterborough and Rutland. Remove oxidation, yellowing and haze to restore both appearance and nighttime visibility. Headlight restoration — improved clarity, brightness and nighttime safety.
Over time, polycarbonate headlight lenses develop oxidation, yellowing and surface haze from UV exposure and road contamination. This reduces light output by up to 50 percent and degrades the appearance of your vehicle. Professional restoration removes these defects and restores optical clarity — and crucially, makes nighttime driving significantly safer.
Our headlight restoration process uses wet sanding and machine polishing techniques to remove the damaged outer layer of the lens, revealing clear plastic underneath. The restored surface is then sealed with a UV-protective coating to slow future degradation. The result is headlights that look new, project light more effectively and improve the overall appearance of the vehicle. This service can be combined with any detailing package or booked as a standalone treatment.

Andrea ForsythUV exposure from sunlight breaks down the protective coating on polycarbonate headlight lenses, causing oxidation that appears as yellowing, hazing or cloudiness. Road debris and chemical contamination accelerate the process.
Typically 30 to 60 minutes per pair. The process involves wet sanding, polishing and sealing to restore clarity and protect against future degradation.
Yes. Oxidised headlights can reduce light output by 50 percent or more. Restoring clarity improves both the brightness and pattern of the beam, making nighttime driving significantly safer.
With proper UV-protective sealant applied and reasonable care, restored headlights typically stay clear for 1-3 years before any signs of new oxidation. We use a ceramic-based sealant where suitable for longer durability.
Significantly. Replacement headlight units commonly cost £200-£1,500+ depending on the vehicle (more for adaptive LED or matrix units). Restoration is a fraction of that cost and delivers excellent results when the lens material is intact.
Most polycarbonate headlights respond well to restoration. Severely cracked lenses or those with internal damage (yellowing on the inside surface, water ingress, reflector damage) cannot be restored through external polishing — replacement is the only solution.
